The following is a small "logic analyzer" project.
The circuits is connected to the parallel port of a PC, and a software application permits the settings and the visualization.
I decided to build it after some surf on the internet: in particular the circuit is the "evolution" of this, and it can work with the same PC software (parallel port version).
