My name is Nico (short for Nicola), I was born in 1977 in the town where I still live in.

I used to look at a radio amateur operator's antenna (it was IT9YRE Nando's father's antenna whose callsign was IT9YRS -SK-) situated along the street where I and my family were in the habit of having a walk on Sundays. It was something that fascinated me. At that time Internet was not known yet.

I started enjoying this beautiful hobby, believe it or not, by getting a couple of those so called "walkie-talkie" toys and playing with my sister in 1988.
Then I had fun on CB with another transceiver my grandmother gave me as birthday present. That was the time I got ill since as I realized that from there to where it was possible to make worldwide communications the step was not too big; so, of course, I tried anything possible to get myself all the other necessary devices to work DX.

On 26th of October 1999 I got my ham radio licence. I was really excited.

I had been using a cheap 10 metres transceiver (President Lincoln 26/30 Mhz) for more than 10 years till summer 2003, and now I’ve got
a better radiostation!... Even though I'm aware it's nothing awesome!

By the use of Internet I'm discovering several aspects of ham-radio... I'm improving day by day my knowledge in the field of electronics (thanks to on-line lessons and ham-radio forums), computer-radio interfacing, etc.

I have a girlfriend whose name's Ilenia, who's 5 years younger than me as well as my second hobby!!!

Other interests of mine in order of importance at this present time are: learning English, motorbikes (I've got a 600 cc. DUCATI Monster), listening to any type of catchy music, photography and fishing. My dream: to travel around the world not only by the airwaves!!!

Ah... I almost forgot... I still believe in ham spirit. ;-)
