You all surely know
that SLASH has a studio in his home, this studio is called SNAKEPIT because it
is …it was very close to the place where he had his snakes. “I had a huge
snake-cage with a visitors tunnel. That thing was equipped with big sliding doors
of glass and housed some pretty impressive 8 meters long pythons. Because my
studio was situated right next to this
snake-cage, we called it the Snakepit studio.”
Of course Snakepit is also the name of his band since
1995!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
“We were just too lazy to think of a new one (name)”
That was the place
where SLASH and the rest of the band recorded “It’s five o’clock somewhere”,
that record had a great success considering the very little promotion was done
for it and the fact that many people already warring for a Guns n’ Roses split,
didn’t want to buy it to not encourage SLASH to leave!!!!!!!
Anyway who listened to it appreciated it a lot and still name it as one
of his favourite records! “ After Guns n’ Roses” and that was old Guns n’
Roses, “it is the best you can find!”
But back to the studio, in 1994 LA was strongly damaged by an heavy
earthquake and the same destiny happened to SLASH’s house and he decided to
move!
The new one was chosen
because … but get it from his own words! “ When I first saw the basement in
this house, I was like, ‘studio!’ So I bought it.”
But he probably had to use some imagination to figure out a studio down
there because “When I saw it for the first time, it was full of mirror walls,
in one of the rooms one of those trashy seventies disco-balls was hanging on
the ceiling”
Have u seen the framed iguana? It was given to
SLASH during the Pet Shop show!
But he worked on it
and he had his studio done, it has a great style! We like it, it is so warm and
comfortable! And again is there that the new record “Ain’t life grand” (we love
this title!!!) was created and recorded…all but bass and drums tracks “ For
weeks we sat on the couch in my living room and worked on the songs. The entire
band lived here and almost ate the hair from my head with their sickly urge for
food. But we had a hell of a time…”
Surely SLASH had a great time there, with all the buddies coming and
going, with all under his hands when he needed it “we just walked downstairs to
the studio and pushed the record button”,
but… now he changed
his mind “ now that the record is done I’m gonna take the equipment out and
build a studio on a commercial site somewhere. I learned a huge lesson about
having a studio where you live: it’s convenient, but shits get broken. We’ve
had some major parties in here, and shit disappears. I had my house broken into
by somebody I know. My signature model Les Paul was ripped off, and a bunch of
other guitars. I learned my lesson.”
Poor SLASH on late summer 1999 from his house were stolen about 13
guitars and tapes and microphones … now some of this things have been found by
the police and we hope SLASH will soon get back all the most important things
at least!!!!!!
This studio now doesn’t
exist any more, SLASH sold his house to Billy Bob Thornton and Angelina Jolie in
the 2000 year, before the pre-tour for “ain’t life grand” so he’ll have to use
another place for the next album!!!
Already working at the project?
Once he said he would have looked for a studio out of his home…
