Larsen Attack (1.b3)

Opening Data Base

Home Page

The Larsen Attack is a sound but not yet deeply analysed opening, based on the flank opening move 1.b3 that prepares to fianchetto the queen's bishop.  The strategy of the Larsen Attack is to control rather than occupy  the central squares and put pressure on Black's kingside.  Black should beware the b2-bishop, avoiding to understimate its action.

Among the several options at Black's disposal to meet 1.b3, 1..e5 and 1..d5 are the most common, looking for the center occupation.
