Here you can download a collection of recent chess games played with the 1...Nf6 line of the English Opening.

With 1...Nf6 Black declares his intention to play an Indian defence. White can however force some of the available indipendent lines, avoiding to move the pawn to d4.  For instance:

  • after 2.Nf3 g6  White can adopt an Anti King's Indian system by playing 3.b4 o 3.b3;

  • after 2.Cf3 b6, White can adopt an Anti Queen's Indian system based on the d2-d3 push and the development of the Bishop in g2, thus enhancing the control over the e4 square;

  • after 2.Nc3 g6 3.Nf3 d5 White can avoid the Grunfeld defence by means of either 4.cxd5 Nxd5 5.g3 (also 5.e4 achieves that goal) or  4.Qa4+;

  • after 2.Nc3 e6 3.Nf3 Bb4 White can play an Anti Nimzo system with 4.Qc2, 4.Qb3 or even the amazing 4.g4!?, avoiding to move the d-pawn so that the bishop in b4 can't pin the Knight in c3.

  • finally aftrer 2.Nc3 e6 is also possible to enter in independent systems with 3.e4 d5 and 3.e4 c5.
