Milazzo, like an other eolian island!

THE NATURAL ASPECTS

Milazzo is a green peninsula  in the Tyrrhenian Sea . Is long about 10 km . The cliff is full of many plants like the Indian figs and the capers.

  THE CAPE

 Between the most important beauty there is the Cape of Milazzo which extends for 5 km in the Tyrrhenian sea . In it there are residences and churches among which the church of the SS.Trinity and the “Addolorata Virgin”.

THE DEPHTS

In the depths there are many species of aquatic animals. It has a big prairie of “Posidonia” (a plant very important for the aquatic ecosystem. The deep seas are so accentuated than in the 1991 there where  the world cup diving registered by the RAI.

(Italian-radio-television). This is a zone interest by strong currents than transport the food for all the organisms like the sponges and gorgonians. In the same current swim big and speed predators, like the tunas the “ricciole” and sea pikes. Between the stones live typical fishes of this ambient like the sarago small grouper and corvine.

About legend.

 The castle are said to have many legends. We recall the main: in some nights, especially in those of March, as the inhabitants of the village tell, you hear the moans of a young woman, an enclosed nun, who was buried living in the wall of the Tower of Islands, because she has betrayed the vow of chastity. Other people tell about the restless shadows of the ghosts in the small english damned cemetery. So we have even another legend that tells about an Irish soldier, Andrew Leonard, who were amputated arms and legs and was left to die imprisoned in a cage, which was modeled on the human figure by iron lists.

One other legend talk about a girl, Elena Baele, who lived in Capo Milazzo. The girl falled in love with the farmer’s son, who worked for Elena’s father. The two lovers rided together among the rocks of the Capo. When Elena’s father noticed the two lovers, he discuissed the boy’s family. Still Elena, not finding her lover, she decided to take a ride and she rided far there the rocks of the Capo and she falled into the sea..

The legend say that durnig summer nights the ghost of the girl ride again among the rocks, looking for her lover…

Mythology is part of sicily: The Capo is considered a privileged zone for God Sun’s cows and the island the home of Eolo, who is God od Winds. And the probably Ulisse and his companions meet Polifemo. The cave of Polifemo is very famous today. Polifemo cave is the mythical cavern house of Gigantic Cyclopes, and the theatre of legendary exploits of Ulisse. The cave has been elose and adapter in bunker, but after it became a night club.
