Armando Giannattasio (1970)

I am an italian research scientist with a background in experimental physics and materials science.

I grew up in Giulianova, a relaxing town with a wide and sandy beach situated on the Adriatic coast.

In 1997, having defended a Thesis on Electron Holography and passed with honors a public examination, I was given a Laurea and the title of "Doctor in Physics" by the University of Camerino, one of the oldest universities founded in 1336. My work at the university level began a little later, with the investigation of some silicon photodetectors for medical applications at the Department of Physics, University of Cagliari, in Sardinia.

In 2000 I started a project leading to a doctorate degree at the Department of Materials, University of Oxford, where I studied the interaction of impurities with dislocations in silicon wafers and how it is possible to improve the mechanical properties of silicon crystals at high temperature. After getting my D.Phil. in Materials Science from Oxford, in 2004 I moved to the University of Exeter, Department of Physics, to work as a Research Fellow on Plasmonics (Surface Plasmon Photonics). After finishing that project I moved back to the University of Oxford where I worked on the transition from brittle to ductile of some bcc metals, in particular tungsten, for application in nuclear fusion reactors.

Recently I have joined MEMC Electronic Materials in Merano (Italy) where I am working as a Senior Engineer in the group of Crystal Technology. Basically we grow high quality silicon single-crystals that are suitable for modern semiconductor industry and photovoltaic applications. In June 2010 I have obtained the credential of Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM®) from the PMI.

Here is an updated  list of my scientific publications.
